Oh dear a golly decent blog ruined by a sad obsession with the worthless and trivial israel/palestine problem with a strong dose of admitted islamophobia. This is exemplified by a kneejerk support for the frankly stupid Blair idea of a Holocaust Day utterly focused on only one genocide where this old BBC story is quoted without any consideration of checking (as any neutral observer would) whether that position had changed. [Note personally I think the MCB were right in the first instance, holocaust day is the wrong name since it focuses what should be a general commemoration of victims of all genocide on that of one unfortunate group whose survivors currently seem to be hell bent on emulating their persecutors rather than learning that states founded on religious/ethnic purity are a bad idea]. When not ranting about the ME problem or running frit of beardies in dresses the blog is otherwise quite reasonable.
Read with Israel/Islamophobic filter set to max.

"that states founded on religious/ethnic purity are a bad idea"
Shouldn't that read as "...states founded as tolerant, egalitarian socieites with a free, uncensored press, transparent, periodic elections, an independent judiciary, a military under civilian control and a nat'l treasury under public scrutiny are a bad idea" ...?
Tough sell. But I sympathize - I tried to defend my cat once after she annihilated the birds in our neighbours bird sanctuary - I had nothing either.

I think Nazi Germany had
I think Nazi Germany had free elections at some point, the US does too - it doesn't mean either of them are societies that we should admire and emulate. I can see the attraction of Israel to the USA given that they were both founded on the idea of stealing someone else's land and carving out your own country but for more civilised nations that sort of stuff is a thing of the past.
It's also worth remembering that Israel is a shining example of the fact terrorism works - the zionists murdered and bombed until everyone was so fed up they left.
Beaman's World
Israel has never been purely ethnically and religiously Jewish, nor did the Zionists ever think it would be. Israel has taken in many non-Jewish refugees and has rarely if ever forced Arabs to leave. The difference between the Nazis and Israel couldn't be any larger.
Regarding the 'sad obsession'. It is something I do feel very strongly about and a subject I will devote much time to. I think it's a vital area of the world affecting us all, whether noticeably or not.
Yes, I am Islamaphobic. Muslimophobic? No. There is a good deal of evidence to show why Islam is something to be concerned about.

Right - a state that allows
Right - a state that allows anyone who claims to be a jew unfettered right of return even if their ancestors upped and left in 2000BC but won't allow an arab back if he was ethnically cleansed in 1947 is not somewhat strange?
I could live with Israel if it wasn't for this bizarrely discriminatory right of return. With it the only sensible solution is to ignore them and hope they quietly kill each other without causing too much harm to the rest of us.
Where is the evidence that islamic nutjobs are any worse than the various other flavours of nutjob (zionists, fundamental christians, shinto fanatics etc etc). I'm afraid you lost the argument with your crass stupidity of posting the old hoary "MCB boycotts Blair's weepy day" without pointing out they had changed that policy. Why because you were too steeped in your nutjob prejudices to allow for the fact people change (except the nutjobs that is)
I don't know where you get
I don't know where you get the notion that the Arabs were ethnically cleansed. That is Arabist mumbo-jumbo. There were rare instances of Zionists forcing Arabs out but the vast majority left due to the conflict, started by Jordan, Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Iraq. They assumed they could return to their homes once the Jews had been defeated and so left the arena for their brethren to carry out a massacre. It failed. Many Arabs at the time stayed in Israel and now enjoy the best standards of living in the whole Middle East.
I don't see what is inherently wrong with a State where Jews can make aliyah to. The Arab and Islamic world are actively aggressive towards Israel and so it is no surprise that the fabled 'right of return' is refused. It would be national suicide.
I never claimed the MCB had boycotted the most recent Holocaust memorial day. I linked to a story from 2006 but the vindictiveness of the MCB against Jews still stands.
Yes of course it is - just
Yes of course it is - just like the zionists weren't terrorists who bombed their way to power. Sorry but as far as I'm concerned any country that lionises the members of the Stern Gang can't complain when their tactics are revisited upon them.
