That BCR jolly to Cannes

that we are all paying for - it seems to have generated only one mention of Bradford in the press in the last week - from somebody promoting Newcastle who happened to study at Bradford Uni.

This link will show all you got for the half mill or so BCR spent on Cannes. (I'm assuming Maud wouldn't get out of bed for less).

They did announce a spectacularly ugly reincarnation of the old Broadway shopping centre as an "education eco-village" (that's eco because after paying the rent the students can't afford heating)

Jolly

I have been to 17 consecutive MIPIM property fairs and can assure you there's nothing very jolly about hanging out with over 20,000 estate agents. It's a great event and much can be achieved there by movers and shakers. However, I have to agree that most of the public sector stands are a complete waste of time (you should see the lavish ones from remote parts of Russia). It's certainly noticeable how much less budgetary control there is when other peoples' money is being spent. I didn't see the Bradford people out on the razzle, but the City of Coventry was spending taxpayers' money in Cap d'Antibes, at one of the best restaurants in the area (I know, because I was there spending mine).

To be honest it has never

To be honest it has never struck me as important enough to find out what it was - but if it is a gathering of the shysters and conmen who like to call themselves estate agents then I guess you can see why no benefit ever accrues from the vast sums spent on it.
