No I'm not talking muslims I'm talking catholics where the church never seems to let go.
Some time around 150 years ago the country as a whole decided that it was time to give catholics the right to participate fully in British politics - a right that had been suspended due to a long history of unwarranted interference of popes and their representatives culminating in the gunpowder plot.
Now you might argue that catholics are just like you and me but the fact is their religious leaders beg to differ - they think that MPs elected as representatives of a largely non-catholic community should represent the views of a narrow religious viewpoint at the expense of the community at large.
Personally I think that anyone who follows a religion should be permanently excluded from politics, their faith alone shows that they are prepared to follow blindly rather than on the basis of reason and blind obedience has no place in modern politics (despite what Gordon Brown thinks is due to him).

Religious nutters in politics - where will it end
Your point that MPs, elected as representatives of a largely, in this instance, non-catholic community should represent the views of their electorate rather than the views of their personal religious leaders is well made and absolutely spot on.
MPs, of whatever religious stripe, should be obliged to swear that they will not be swayed by such considerations - before they are allowed to run for parliament, let alone take up office.
